The Australian Open is heading into its final days at Melbourne Park and I’m excited and sad at the same time. I’m a big tennis fan and two of my favourite players: Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are playing in the finals, I’ll be rooting hard.
There’s no doubt that Serena Williams is The Greatest of her generation (if not of all time). She and Venus were once both world’s number 1 and 2 for a really long time. Their game had such an impact on how women’s tennis looks today. I watched a lot of tennis in time of Williams, Clijsters and Henin – Go Clijsters! Both Henin and Clijsters were the first to slowly challenge the Williams dominance. And may I say they succeeded quite well.
A few years down the road and both Belgian players are retired. Serena and Venus however, are still touring the circuit. And they’re crushing it. Serena, close to winning a record 23 Grand Slam titles(!), is playing her older sister Venus again Saturday. She’s leading the head-to-head by 15-11, which is fairly close in the world of tennis where anything is possible. It’ll definitely be something to look forward to.
Bring on the heat!
